I am crying as I write this, watching the Labour party conference live. I should be writing notes for a meeting in my home town in Spain tomorrow.
My tears are of thanks for the inspiration I am getting from the people speaking to the conference motions, acts designed to restore Britain to the civilised ,caring country it once was.
Young people, many of them women, many of them first-time speakers, are nervous yet fired by their desire to make life better for people. A young woman from Cornwall, calling on delegates to vote for the motion to restore social housing, council houses, to Britain tells of her plight with a severely ill child, forced to pay outrageous rent in Cornwall so as to be near the support team. She received a standing ovation.
Do the reporters from TV, radio and newspapers ever watch the actual conference debates I wonder? I suspect not. My faith in the future fully restored by the passion and commitment of the conference spaeakers.
