This setup doesn’t work like a normal WordPress. Here’s my preliminary explanation of one of the functions that doesn’t work the usual way and the solutions I’ve found so far.

Posts and Pages

Setting a page to show posts as in a normal WordPress doesn’t seem to work. The posts don’t appear, and it can interefere with the diffeent method of displaying posts that’s used by this system.

But it also doesn’t seem to allow no page to be set for posts. Setting them to an unused page that doesn’t appear in the menu (e.g. Sample page) works fine.

To do this go to Settings .>Reading

There is a way of showing posts in this system, but it won’t work on a page that has been set in the usual way to show them. By default this page is the front page, but people often set them to appear on another page e.g. Blog or News

Check and/or change that setting as I’ve explained above.

To create pages with static content.

There isn’t the usual WP post editing area either. You can add content using the various content blocks instead.

To create pages with frequenly updated content

First add a category, if the one you want isn’t there already.

Go to Posts >Categories”.

You can then create a new category, or edit an existing one, and change some settings.

In particular you can choose from 3 display types.

  • Linear – like a blog, one post after another.
  • Grid – good for posts with a photo
  • Team – special layout to present your team.

Then create some posts about that topic and assign them to that category, or categorise (or re-categorise) some existing posts. It looks like this only works if each post has only one category. I tried posts with more than one, but then the posting didn’t work.

Do that from Posts >All posts

Then create the page where you want the posts to appear, or go to an existing page. As above, make sure it hasn’t been set to be the page that should show posts.

Click on Content Blocks. Click on “Add content” button. Select “Category latest”.

Fll in a title, which will appear at the top of the page, and select the category you want to display (e.g. News) and how many posts to show at once (up to 9)

If it’s a new page you then need to add it to the menu. Go to Appearance >Menus.

Don’t forget to update all your changes.

When you view the page, you might need to refresh it. It should now show the posts from the selected category. It seems not to always work the first time.

I don’t know yet whether one page can show more than one category, or if posts can be shown on the same page as other types of content. That needs some more experimentation.

I’ve demonstrated all this with some dummy posts and the categories News, Lorem and Team, which is a special category with its own layout. I’ve also set up pages and categories for Events and Campaigns so they are ready for some posts to be created and assigned to those categories.

There is an Events block but I think it shows an automatic feed of events in the UK, so it might not be what you want.
