
The pension situation, in particular, is a serious issue – whilest having to have a Spanish passport and give up a British one is not ideal, having your private pension end after Brexit is going to be a much bigger issue for most people. Hopefully there will be some fudge agreed so existing pensioners won’t be affected.
This financial passporting issue also means life insurance and car insurance setup in the UK (including Gibralatar) will end after Brexit as well unless there is agreement to let it continue. Many UK expats in Spain use Gibraltar based insurance companies for their Spanish registered cars.
All eyes are on the EU Summit at the end of June. The EU has publicly said if there is no significant progress on the UK Withdrawal Agreement talks by that meeting, the UK’s proposed Transition period from 29th March 2019 to 31st December 2020 will not go ahead and there will be no further talks on EU-UK trade deals for implementation after Brexit. There is a lot at stake for the UK in the next 6 weeks…….
