There’s growing outrage at BP’s presence as an exhibitor at conference, and its sponsorship of an event in partnership with The Newstatesman. Labour for a Green New Deal has called for conference attendees to protest the event from 8.40 on Tuesday 24th September, outside the Metropole Hotel.
Labour for a Green New Deal is also calling for conference attendees to boycott events sponsored by Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
Such sponsorship seems at best poorly judged, and at worst downright damaging: the equivalent of inviting Benson and Hedges to sponsor discussions on lung cancer. During Labour International’s pre-conference briefing, our delegates expressed unanimous disgust. We trust that this is the last conference at which companies whose business models are based on continued extraction are present.
