Parliament will be dissolved on 6 November and the official General Election campaign will be under way. At this early stage in the campaign nothing is more important than ensuring that people are registered to vote and have made or are making arrangements for a postal or proxy vote. Over 3 million people have registered in the last few weeks but many more still can.
The process for registering to vote is straightforward and can be done online. Our guide lays out what you need to do and links to the registration process. But this needs to be done by 5 pm on 26 November.
Earlier is better since, unless you intend to vote in person, you will need to then secure a proxy or postal vote. A proxy vote, where somebody you trust votes for you is best since postal voting is subject to the vagaries of the postal service. Again how you go about this is covered in our earlier post
Finally for students in the UK you can check whether your vote would be better cast at your home or your university and register to vote accordingly. You can also use the proxy or postal vote options.
