With a speech in Battersea challenging people to decide “which side are you on” Jeremy Corbyn launched Labour’s election campaign with a broadside against the failures of nearly 10 years of Conservative and Lib Dem misrule.
”This election is a once-in-a-generation chance to transform our country, take on the vested interests holding people back and ensure that no community is left behind”
He highlighted the issues a Labour Government would tackle including:
- the scandal of rough sleeping and homelessness
- The underfunding of the education system
- The cuts to the police service
- The rich tax dodgers
Labour will be about helping those who do not have a lot of money by taxing properly those who do and those companies who do not pay their fair share. But more than that he said:
”So we’re going after the tax dodgers. We’re going after the dodgy landlords. We’re going after the bad bosses. We’re going after the big polluters. Because we know whose side we’re on”
Labour’s answer to the question “whose side are you on” is that we are on the side of the 99%.
“When Labour wins the nurse wins, the pensioner wins, the student wins, the office worker wins, the engineer wins. We all win”
