LI Contacts Around The World

What is a Labour International Country/City Contact? What does the role entail?

Ideally the role will be to:

  • Become a focal point for embryonic groups and branches where none exist.
  • Act as a local contact point for and with sister parties.
  • Provide a contact point for country or local visits by the Party and its MPs/MEPs.
  • Be a contact and information point for the Party’s Country Liaison MPs/MEPs
  • We may ask you to set up a “buddy” system in your country/area for printing and posting LI Annual Reports to fellow LI members in your country/area who do not have email. Help with expenses will be given if this is a problem for you.
  • Write short area or country reports for the LI or Party website, newsletters, etc. We intend to have a page for every Country/City Contact on the website to provide you with a direct audience within LI and the Party.
  • Gather area-specific information and news about political and societal developments on an ad hoc basis. For example references to Labour Party policies in the local press or media, if the Tories refer to a country as having such and such an experience then this can be countered by the Party based on local knowledge, as well as interesting or relevant policy developments which should be drawn to the attention of the Party.

However, not everyone has the time or inclination to do all these things so we are happy that Country/City Contacts do as much of the above as they feel comfortable with. Our main priority is to promote the Party positively and set up groups and/or Branches.

Country/City Contacts must have access to email and, while it is recognized that people have busy lives, they need to have a regular commitment to their role. Note that it’s fine that we have two or more Country/City Contacts in a given country or area. The more we are, the better the coverage and the bigger the impact. We would hope that Country/City Contacts will participate in the LI Facebook closed discussion group.

We will allocate you a generic email address in the format of LI-Country-City@labourinternational.net which will mask your personal email address on the website. Although, when you reply to enquiries it will be from your personal email address. Any email you receive in respect of LI which you find to be offensive in any way you should forward to the Secretary@labourinternational.net

If you have any questions, please contact secretary@labourinternational.net or membership@labourinternational.net.
