Labour NRW (the North-Rhine-Westphalia region of Germany) warmly invites you to Köln Stellt Sich Quer - Mass Demonstration Against the AfD on Saturday April 22nd.
If you’re free, please come! This is a crucial Anti-Racism demo in Cologne, coinciding with the AfD Party Congress. The AfD want to establish themselves as a "normal" party, and to make their xenophobia an acceptable part of political debate. It's essential to show all of Germany in election year that the vast majority of German civil society does not accept their xenophobia, and can and will take a stand against hate and intolerance.
And Cologne really is the city to do it: It has a huge, proud anti-fascist tradition that goes through all segments of society, and importantly includes all the major carnival bands, who’ll be playing. All recent attempts by the far right to raise their flag in Cologne (Pro Köln, Hogesa) has been met with huge counter-demonstrations (50,000 and 15,000 respectively). With support from political parties, churches, unions, and even the local tabloid press, turnout is expected to be huge. Bring everyone you can along for a great, family-friendly day with lots of music!
The demo starts at Heumarkt, Cologne at 12 noon. Heumarkt is 2 stops on the U-Bahn or a 10-15 minute walk through the old city from Cologne.
We’ll meet up from 11.00 outside Café Rosenow, on Heumarkt.
